I'm inspired by this lady.

She happens to be my colleague, a mother of 2 young boys and a dutiful wife of a lucky man.

Ever since her husband's health deteriorated and stopped working, she's been the sole breadwinner of the house and her husband does all housework, cooking and bringing the kids to school. It's not that her husband can't work totally, he is a normal man who just can't do strenuous work and yet, she wants him to be at home, for fear of his health. Her 6k+ gross pay monthly with a take home of 5k is needed to feed 4 mouths everyday, pay for her son's tuition & school fees, car loan, utilities, 3 hp bills and some miscellaneous bills. She told me she's gotta pay an average of 4k per month on necessities to satisfy also her precious son's indulgences over some trendy items their classmates have… like iPhone, Havaianas slippers, Crocs… 5k is a handsome amount for 1 person…. but if you have to use 5k to feed 4 person? Think again.

Sometimes, I would overhear her speaking to her sons and trying to reason out nicely with them that those stuff are excessive and not worth buying but in the end, she'll give in to them and say "Ok lah, ok lah" with a giggle. I've never heard her once scolded her kids before, let alone, beat them. At times, I would feel angry at her kids for being not understanding to their mum when they skipped tuition classes or feigned ill. I would also feel unjust for her that her husband 'refuses' to get back to work in the society and help lessen her burden.

Her love for her husband, her kids has truly touched me… even it was just a 20mins conversation with her this afternoon on work discussion and just sharing a 5min part of her life to me. The first question I asked was…. did you buy insurance for your family… Her reply was "No, no extra money". It just saddens me for to me, I feel at least a medical plan is important to safeguard any uncertainties in life.

It just leaves me wondering how many females nowadays would agree to such conditions. Actually her husband can still work but he cannot do strenuous jobs. I doubt beings from Venus in this era would swallow this hardship and stick with a non-working man who cannot provide the basics for the family which I feel is very important. Judge me whatsoever, I'm just stating the facts.

For her, she is happy working for her family and would do anything for her husband… even letting him live in comfort while she toils outside. I see lots of unconditional love here. I think without love, no one can ever do what she does now. With this, I must salute to her with all due respect…

To her & all the wonderful mummies out there, I wanna say this,
"I don't think many women can do what you are doing now. U remind me of my mum, who single-handedly raised me & my bro with a meagre pay and yet provided us with such warmth and security, a roof over our head and submits relentlessly to our capricious requests. Though I may not understand how it's like to be a wife of the man I love and let alone, a mother of 2, I sincerely feel that you have given more than what you could with a love that is so unconditional surrounding your family. Like an angel, you have protected them from harm, hardships and have kept to your nuptial vows of giving abiding love in sickness and in their pinkest of health…. U truly are amazing…."
