We've been to Uncle Leong a few times and quite liked the food there. I've been to Mellban a few times with my colleagues.
So this time, I want to let him try Mellban @ Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 to fulfill our cravings for crabs on a Sunday late afternoon. We thought we were early to reach at 5pm worrying if the place will be opened... To our surprise, there were already a few tables seated before us.
We thought of ordering 2 crabs - Pepper & Butter... but later decided just to have 1 cos' they told us the waiting time is 45min-1hr. I thought this was RIDICULOUS cos' there were just just 4 tables full in the entire coffeeshop. So these 2 dishes came 1st...
Tasteless and a tad too oily. YUCKX!
I thought this dish was nice for a change from the usual Hot Plate Tofu... Quite a big portion for a small dish.
I was totally disappointmented with the dishes. I've tried all of their crab flavours before and this Butter Crab should have a much thicker sauce! The sauce turned out bland & diluted.... I didn't enjoy the dish at all, except to makedo with the Freshness and Succulence of the Crab meat that was all attributed to the quality of the catch and not the CHEF of this restaurant.
The only plus point about Mellban, was the beautiful renovation they have done to the entire coffeeshop to make it a much more comfortable, cosy and cleaner dinning experience now.
Our total bill came up to $62...
$40 small Crab
$8 small Tofu
$8 small Vermicelli
$6 Snacks, Rice & 2 Drinks
+ 7% GST!
A word of advice:
- Best to arrive by 5pm, or U will regret with the never-gonna-end queue by 6pm.
- Expect to wait 30mins for the dishes
- Sit at corners (ie. anywhere far from the main entrance/walkway or U'll invite unwelcoming stares from the Hungry diners queuing for tables, when you are still very much enjoying the last few pieces of vegetables)
