Mum is Hospitalised !

Wednesday (Day 1)

Mum called me on Thursday, 4pm when I was at my appointment but I didn't hear it ring... So she called Bro to bring her to the Hospital! I called back at 4.30pm (missed call) and found out that she was actually at Wong Clinic and the Doctor told her she needs to be admitted immediately cos' her heartbeat is extremely fast.... like at 160 beats per min! An average normal person will be only 80-100. When I go to the gym and do my threadmill, my heartbeat can hit 160+ on my maximum. This showed how fast her heart rate was.

I rushed home after work at 5pm and packed all her clothings, brushing kits, medication, IC.. and went to meet Bro at Changi General Hospital... sis was here too. Mum is in the Resuscitation Ward at A&E. I don't know... but the word 'resuscitation' sounded really serious to me. Ate a Polar puff bro bought and we waited for more news from the Nurses/Docs. Ad came by shortly after work.. We waited patiently for amost 2 hrs...discussed about what Mum can do if she really let go of her business cos' it seemed too stressful for her to handle alone. We were toying with ideas like she can go to Church services, take up some classes at the CC or play Taiji, etc. Finally, the nurse came out and arranged for us to sign the documents for Mum to be warded. Mum chose the C ward (When patient is conscious, right will be given for them to choose). I was like.... huh.... will she be able to sleep in peace with so many other patients and no air-con cos' she sleeps w aircon everyday? I was worried.

Luckily, due to her cardiovascular condition, she was entitled to a special ward (only 5 bedders) with air-con but will foot the same price as C ward... Thank God. That was a real blessing.

We stayed with Mum for a couple of hours more before heading back home to rest n wash up. Glad Mum is in good hands. Cos' heart patients will be closely monitored at all times by the Nurses as patients will carry with them a heart device for heart rate everywhere they go.

Doc : So Mdm Wee, do you feel yourself losing weight recently?
Mum : Huh? what do you think Doc? Looking at my size, I don't even know if I've been losing or gaining weight.
All: WAHAHAHA!!!

* Diagnosis: Mum's heart has swell. Due to her constant exertion to cough out her phlegm during the time she had cough, she's strained her heart as well. Drinking too much water at the same time, will make her heart swell instead of relieving the hurt/pain.... and due to the swelling, it caused a strain on her stomach and has affected her appetitite and palette. If fast HR is left untreated, she may suffer a stroke. So Doc gave her treatment for her cough n heart, asked her to cut down on water. Doc: 'Water may not be a useful antidote for all anxiety/illness' like in your Mum's case.

Doc's Advice: MUM MUST REFRAIN FROM COFFEE & TEA AT ALL TIMES.

*I bought Mum a chick mayo Sandwich, newspaper + mag.

Thursday (Day 2):

Mum feels better but HR is still high at 115. JingXiang (bro's friend) brought Essence of Chicken , Eve and Grandpa and Ad came to see Mum today... Glad I told Eve just to buy fruits like grapes and prunes instead of Essence of Chicken. Surprisingly for someone who doesn't eat grapes, Mum likes them and has been singing praises about the grapes for days. :> She likes it.... maybe cos' I have carefully peeled and washed them so it just tastes better. :P

* Got Mum CCF, cereals, newspaper and chick. mayo sandwich.

* I took down the clothes and folded them all for everyone.

Friday (Day 3):

Mum's HR jumped to 130. Hmm...? Due to?? She needs to be on observation and put thru' a few more tests incld. heart scan , until her conditions become stable and normal, she can then be discharged. Aunt KY, Grandpa, Ron & Ian and Ad came to see Mum. They brought some rose buds (for brewing tea) and Essence of Chicken for Mum to 'jing bu'. So sweet... Luckily rose buds contains no caffeine. Wanted to bring her on wheelchair to jalan jalan but the nurses refused saying that she mustn't move around too much or leave the boundary otherwise their monitor can't be detected. No choice, Mum will be cooped for a few days more. Mum's stopped consuming waffarin.... Doc increased her heart dosage pills.

* Bought Mum some dumpling soup to 'compliment' her lunch, tuna sandwich, newspaper and mag.

* I packed my room , don't know why its still as messy :( and vacuumed every corner of the whole house (except bro n sis' room). Oopss

Saturday (Day 4):

Came straight after work with Dawn to visit Mum with a stalk of daisy and her fav. chick.mayo sandwich. Yiippz! Mum is free from her HR device, so that means she can be free to walk around the hospital. She looks better today. When we joked abt the no. of times Mum eat everyday (5 times).... Mum retaliated that she needs to eat often, otherwise her HR will go very fast. Aow... lame excuse Mum! Mum is gaining more weight in hosp than at home I think. She took $10 frm me so that she can go jalan around later downstairs. Hopefully no more food pls. Ok lah.... at least will not be that boring for her sitting around doing nothing and chatting with the next bedded auntie....she can watch TV too. :)

*got Mum some CCF for her tea upon her request... Hmm.. I thought Dawn already got her sandwich??? eat so much! Btw, Sis got Mum some papaya. Rare find...

Sunday (Day 5)

Arranged to visit Mum in the evening cos' Bro & sis wanted to visit Mum in the afternoon..at least me & Ad can accompany her at night. Can feel Mum's frustration when she called me at noon to see why I am not there yet Cos' I've always made it a point to be there every Lunch & Dinner. (OOPS! Thought Bro is there?)... HMPH. Her heartrate hasn't dropped a bit still hanging at 130 now. Hmm... Gota wait for the consultation tmr cos' no Docs around on Sun. Bear with it Mum.

*Bought newspaper & sandwich. Went downstairs with Mum to ease her sudden craving of Vermicelli Fishball Soup!

Monday (Day 6)

Mum had to do a test to diagnose coronary artery disease (Helical CAT Scan/CT Scan) where she needs to be sedated at her wrist so a thin scope (X-ray Tube) is pierced through her main artery from her wrist to her chest area to check for blockage & see pictures of her chest and lungs. Mum got so nervous her HR shot up to 180! Results were negative. Thank God... at least no need for any immediate operation. Doc will adjust her medication to observe the reaction.. hopefully her condition can improve~! Spoke to the Dr. Lim & Dr. Ong (who has seen my Mum 3 years ago), Dr. Ong commented that Mum's condition is due to Hypertension... will increase dosage of 1 type of her existing pill to control her fast pulse rate. Went to try Qi Ji for the 1st time with Ad... Hmm.. the nasi lemak & so-called 'long-queueing' popiah failed to impress me. Punggol nasi lemak & Siglap's popiah is still better.

* Brought somemore underwear for Mum in case she needs more days for recuperation! Bought her newspaper, sweets & sandwich... wonders why Mum likes the chicken mayo sandwich from 7-eleven so much!

Tuesday (Day 7)

Ok, everything looks good though mum's HR went up 150 in the morning... hmmm morning ganjiong-ness?? Seems like her HR did go down now till 90-100... Dr. Ong says if all goes well, Mum can be discharged tomorrow. :) Joyce wanted to dropby but couldn't make it last minute.. Never mind, come for Mum's vege bee hoon next time ya. Brought Mum down for a walk and ranted to Mum a bit on bro n sis. They made a MOUNTAINFUL of sandwiches last night meant for breakfast today.... but left nothing for me. I saw them making them.... but they never ask me if I'd like some. Sigh...Whenever I make sandwich for myself last time or even buy breakfast back home, I never fail to ask or leave some for them.. why don't they spare a TINY thought for me.. Mum said, they're like that... will put themself in priority always... never even will make sandwich for Mum too, let alone me (their sis). *BOO* I:M DEPRIVED!

* Got her dumpling soup & newspaper as per her request.

Wednesday (Day 8)

Finally, Mum can be discharged at 3pm. Bro picked her up and brought her back home from CGH! Hope she'll get better each day....
